Hmm, well I think there should be a rearrangement of words in this question. What do we mean by stability? Is it political or economic? Usually the term stability is being put coterminous of economic prosperity, and most of the time, political freedom, is being closely related to instability (well anarchy is the extreme form of democracy, isn't it?).

Why can't we be civilized enough to have 'em both? Our people are too educated but no one seems to know why our society is this chaotic.

Hi Little Quiapo,
Many of our Asian neighbors who are experiencing economic prosperity started with strong arm rule like Singapore, Korea and Thailand where people concentrated more on the pursuit of economic prosperity instead of strong adherence to popular democracy. They had discipline and national pride which Filipinos do not have. We are so preoccupied with democratic principles but do not have the discipline nor the nationalism to transcend personal and group interest. In other words, we maintain our usual crab mentality. That is the rationale of the question. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless.

I'll say economic prosperity, focusing on political aspect doesn't do any good which is what happening in our country right now... I agree with you Kuya Mel, South Korea is one prosperous country right now because they focus more on economic aspect rather than politics which is the opposit of North Korea who wants a political domination.

Hi Rose,
Probably we are trying too hard to be so democratic that we forget how to pursue real economic and nationalistic goals first. Puro tayo batas, speeches at grandstanding pero walang accomplishment, kaya hindi umangat angat ang Pilipinas. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you all always.

I don't think one can exist without the other. To have economic prosperity is dependent on political stability. When a nation is unstable on its administration and political affairs, it is weak even to manage and control its economy and finances.

Political freedom and stability, the rest should follow from that.

Hi Bingkee,
Singapore started with a strong rule but became very prosperous. So with South Korea and Taiwan. Both started with strong men rules but became prosperous. Too much democracy has hindered the economic growth of the Philippines. The Philippines want to copy the democratic ways of America but lack of political maturity and nationalism resulted in stunted economic growth and development. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.

Hi Amrita,
Yes, that's right. Economic prosperity can follow later on. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.
